Scan any food barcode and instantly see health ratings, ingredient breakdowns, and additive safety scores — across Europe, India, and worldwide. 100% independent, with zero influence from food manufacturers.
Point your camera at any barcode and get results in under a second. Works on millions of products across Europe, India, and over 160 countries worldwide.
Our database covers 800+ food additives rated by EFSA (Europe), FSSAI (India), and WHO global standards. Know exactly which E-numbers and INS codes to avoid.
Every product gets a clear 0–100 health score based on sugar, salt, fat, fibre and more — using the NPM 2026 methodology trusted by public health authorities globally.
Chakhu has never accepted and will never accept money, sponsorship, or any form of influence from food manufacturers or suppliers. Every score is calculated purely on science — not on who pays us.
If a product scores low, Chakhu automatically suggests healthier alternatives in the same category — based purely on nutrition, never on brand deals.
We never sell your data. Your scan history stays on your device. No account required to use the app.
Chakhu does not accept — and will never accept — payments, sponsorships, free products, or any form of incentive from food brands, manufacturers, or suppliers. No company can pay to improve their score, remove a negative rating, or be featured as a "recommended" product. Our ratings are calculated purely using publicly available nutritional data and internationally recognised scientific standards. What you see is the truth — nothing more, nothing less.
Open Chakhu and point your phone camera at any food product barcode. The scanner works instantly — no button press needed.
See the health score, traffic-light nutrition chart, full ingredient list with additive safety ratings, and origin country.
If the product scores below 60, Chakhu shows you healthier alternatives from the same category. Every suggestion is based purely on nutrition science — never on brand deals or manufacturer payments.
Chakhu is coming soon to Android. Sign up to be the first to know when it launches on the Google Play Store.
Chakhu was built out of frustration — too many products, too many unreadable ingredient lists, and too little honest, unbiased information for everyday consumers across the world.
Food labels everywhere are confusing by design. Tiny text, chemical names nobody recognises, and health claims that mean nothing. This is a global problem — whether you're shopping in London, Mumbai, Paris, or Berlin. Chakhu cuts through all of that. We take every product's barcode, pull its full data, and give you a clear, honest health score in plain language — so you can make better decisions in seconds, not minutes.
This is the most important thing about Chakhu: we are completely independent. We do not accept — and will never accept — any payment, sponsorship, free samples, affiliate fees, or any other form of commercial relationship with food manufacturers or suppliers.
No company can buy a better score. No brand can pay to appear in our "recommended" alternatives. No supplier can pay to have a negative rating removed or hidden. Our scores are calculated using only publicly available nutritional data and internationally recognised scientific methodology. This independence is the foundation of everything Chakhu stands for — and we will never compromise it.
Unlike apps that just show you nutrition numbers, Chakhu actually interprets what those numbers mean for your health. Our scoring uses the Nutri-Score Profile Model (NPM 2026) — the same method used by public health authorities across Europe and adopted by health organisations worldwide. The app works globally, with primary coverage of European and Indian markets and expanding support for products across 160+ countries via the Open Food Facts database.
Our additive database covers 800+ food additives cross-referenced across EFSA (European Food Safety Authority), FSSAI (India), and WHO global guidelines — so you know which preservatives, colours, and sweeteners to be cautious about, regardless of where the product was made.
We show you exactly how every score is calculated. No black boxes, no hidden agendas.
Zero commercial relationships with food brands. No sponsorships. No manufacturer influence. Ever.
Built for the world — with deep coverage of European and Indian markets and expanding globally.
No accounts, no tracking, no selling your data. Ever.
Results in under a second. Because nobody wants to wait in the supermarket aisle.
Every score follows internationally recognised methodology — NPM 2026, EFSA, FSSAI, and WHO standards.
Chakhu uses product data from Open Food Facts, a free, open, collaborative database with over 3.5 million food products from around the world. Additive safety ratings are sourced from EFSA (Europe), FSSAI (India), and WHO international standards. Health scoring follows the NPM 2026 methodology. No data source has any commercial relationship with Chakhu.

Chakhu is designed with privacy at its core. Here is what we collect and why:
The Chakhu app requests access to your device camera solely for the purpose of scanning food barcodes. We do not capture, store, or transmit any images or video from your camera. The camera feed is processed locally on your device and never uploaded to our servers.
We do not use your information for advertising, profiling, or any commercial purpose beyond operating the app.
We do not sell, rent, or share your personal information with any third parties for marketing purposes. Product barcode lookups are processed through the Open Food Facts API, which is a public, not-for-profit database. Please refer to Open Food Facts' own privacy policy for their data handling practices.
Our server is hosted on secure infrastructure. Barcode lookup results are cached temporarily to improve performance. This cache contains only product data (ingredients, nutrition facts) keyed by barcode — no user identifiers are attached. Cached data is automatically deleted after 30 days.
Chakhu does not knowingly collect personal information from children under the age of 13. The app is intended for general audiences. If you believe a child has provided us personal information, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. We encourage you to review this page periodically.
If you have any questions or concerns about this Privacy Policy, please contact us at privacy [at] chakhu.com or use the contact form on our website.
Have a question, feedback, or want to report a product issue? We'd love to hear from you. We typically respond within 24–48 hours.
